Villa Oliviero Positano wedding photographer
I’m super happy to share this Villa Oliviero Positano wedding with you! I met Alyssa and Alex at a wedding I shot in Bowral a few years ago. Alyssa was a bridesmaid. In fact, it was her sister’s wedding I was shooting that day (on my blog here). Fast forward a few years, and I received an email from Alyssa asking me to shoot her wedding in Sydney. I no longer shoot weddings in Sydney, so I politely declined.
Then a week later Alyssa wrote back. ‘How about if we have our wedding in Italy would you come and shoot that for us?’ 😍 And that’s how I ended up shooting this incredible wedding. Michelle (my wife + videographer) came along and shot a wonderful wedding film. You can see it at the bottom of this post.
A magical Villa Oliviero Positano wedding
I’d been to Italy several times, and I’d spent 7 months living in Bologna. But I’d never been to the Amalfi Coast, and I had never shot an Italian wedding. When Alyssa told me the name of her venue, I did some google research. My mind was blown by the result.
Villa Oliviero is one of several huge old villas tumbling down the side of the mountains that surround the town centre of Positano. The villa itself is spread over four levels and is huge. Alyssa and Alex told me that they regularly lost each other among its whitewashed walkways and labyrinthine layout. It has heaps of bedrooms and living areas, and of course has one of the most incredible views you’ll ever see.
The wedding day at this Villa Oliviero Positano Amalfi Coast wedding
Michelle and I had booked an airbnb a little out of town, and ‘up a few steps’ from Villa Oliviero. What we didn’t realise that ‘a few steps’ in Positano was 1000 steps up a very steep incline.
On the morning of Alex and Alyssa’s Villa Oliviero Positano wedding, we made our way slowly down these 1000 steps with our backpacks full of gear. We arrived to the Villa and a very warm welcome from everyone. All 40 or so guests had flown in for the wedding, mostly from Australia, so the vibe on the day was really special.
Alyssa and Alex both got ready at Villa Oliviero, and the ceremony was on one of the balconies. A band played some traditional Neapolitan music while we ate wood-fired pizza, and then we wandered around the nearby streets taking some photos. The villa has an incredible rooftop where you can go for photos which is pretty incredible.
After our photos, everyone sat down at a single long table one of the villa’s upper balconies. We feasted on incredible food: pasta, salad, and amazing deserts. The whole thing felt like a dream, and I kept getting distracted from shooting, gazing out at the view in disbelief.
