In early 2016 I flew to NZ two times for two separate weddings (how lucky am I). I’m stoked to be able to share one of those with you. My second New Zealand Wedding, my first time in a helicopter, and my first time shooting at this wonderful venue in the Southern Alps called Terrace Downs. This Terrace Downs wedding was absolutely incredible, and I hope to some day head back to this wonderful location for another wedding or two.
That time I went up in a helicopter at a wedding
To be completely honest, I was a little nervous about going up in a chopper. This was my first time, and the thing was tiny. Just enough space for 4 people, encased in a thin layer of glass. I sat in front next to the pilot because I wanted to be able to shoot backwards and document the two newly-married faces sitting next to each other. They gazed out the windows in awe and disbelief at how epic this Terrace Downs wedding was.
We landed literally on top of a mountain, and as I shakily climbed out of the chopper, I was left absolutely without words. 360 degree views towards lakes, snow-capped ranges, lego-size farm houses, and cotton-candy clouds.
The vista was quite overwhelming; accordingly, I admit that I initially wasn’t quite sure what to do. How on earth can I combine these two tiny humans with this colossal landscape to make some incredible images?
Oh, and at 10pm I met a tiny hedgehog which kept biting my shoe and following me around. That was pretty cool too.
A lovely Terrace Downs wedding
If you’re planning a Terrace Downs wedding and are looking for a photographer, i’d love to hear from you – you can contact me at the link in menu above. Yes I’m based in Sydney, but my travel fees are super low, and I’d just love to come and document your Terrace Downs wedding 🙂
