Well, what an adventure. This Koh Samui wedding will go down as one of the best experiences of my career. Trent and Di were married in Koh Samui at Le Meridien, an epic hotel right on the beach. I flew over with my friend Tom Coburn who shoots wedding films and together we spent a week or so in this island paradise.
The Location – A wonderful Koh Samui wedding
We arrived a few days early to scout around and have a look at the area. We hired scooters and rode around. There were monkeys, and we drank fresh coconut water and ate pad thai. Trent, the groom at this wedding, is also a wedding photographer so it was great to have him involved too.
The ceremony at this Koh Samui wedding was held on the end of a long pontoon which lances into the water from the shoreline in front of the hotel. It’s a pretty big pontoon – all 80 or so guests were accommodated there with ease. After the nuptials, we all piled into a minibus and went inland for some photos. Tom and I had found a shaded grove of palms perfect for this. We the made our way back to the beach for some sunset shots. In fact, we almost missed the sunset completely, but managed to just arrive as the last of the evening glow still stained the sky orange.
The reception area at this Koh Samui wedding is one of the absolute best I’ve ever seen. An open, grassed courtyard, surrounded by tall pines, criss-crossed with fairy lights and lanterns. Standing back and looking in to the courtyard, the vibe is one of a magical fairytale. I couldn’t believe this incredible location actually existed.
After the reception we moved next to door to the beach club for fire twirlers, cocktails and a cigar bar. I eventually put the camera down and sat on the beach marvelling at how I ended up at this incredible place.
