Just like that random but fun Uncle

Hi, I’m Thomas Stewart, a Southern Highlands wedding photographer.

My #1 objective at a wedding is that I don’t take away from your fun day. I don’t want my presence to be annoying or frustrating. I want to glide into the day like a random uncle who is funny but not weird, and who all your guests enjoy being around.

Later on, after the wedding when you’re looking at your photos, I want you to say to each other:

‘HA that was fun! And also Tom wasn’t weird at all, and he didn’t push us too far with photos, and he recognised when we wanted to finish up and head to the reception and drink wine with our mates.’

He didn’t detract from the day – he made it better.’

Documentary Southern Highlands wedding photographer

I would say that I’m a documentary photographer. Whatever weird and crazy stuff is happening at your wedding – I want to document that. Your crazy aunt does some weird stuff on the dance floor? yeah, I want to photograph that. Your recently acquired rescue cat decides to take a nap on your dress? Oh yes, I’m all over that with my camera.

This exact group of people at your wedding – they’ll NEVER be in the same place, at the same time, ever again. That’s pretty special! This incredible meeting of new friends, old friends, and family is why I love shooting weddings, and it’s what I strive to document every time I pick up my camera.

If you look through the photos here on my site, I hope you’ll see a kind of theme: my main inspiration is people, and the beautiful human interactions that occur in front of me. I could shoot at the same venue hundreds of times, but each time I’d feel inspired, and each time my photos would be different, because the people are different. No two couples are the same, and no two sets of guests are the same – so my photos will always be unique.

What’s that, you’re not a model? Don’t worry, neither am I

None of the couples you see on my site are models. None of these photos are from styled shoots or editorials. These are all real couples like you, who were most probably just as apprehensive about having their photo taken as you are. In fact at my own wedding I was nervous about photos too, so I feel you.

Don’t worry – we’re going to have fun.

Pricing

I offer various different amounts of wedding day photography coverage: 4, 6, 8 and 10 hours. After 800 weddings, I’ve figured out that 95% of couples need either 6 or 8 hours of photography at their wedding. 6 hours normally covers the ceremony, portraits and all reception formalities (and some dancing!), and 8 hours adds in getting ready photos of both you and your partner.

I’m also more than happy to shoot for other amounts of time + coverage – just ask me for a custom quote.

I’m here to help

Most people haven’t been married before, and many find the entire planning process quite daunting. But fear not! As it turns out, being a wedding photographer means I often double as a wedding planner haha. In fact it’s in my best interests that your wedding runs to a nice timeline, with excellent vendors to help you, as this means I’ll have a better chance to take wonderful photos.

As soon as you book me, you’ll have access to a wealth of information regarding every aspect of wedding planning. I have compiled a comprehensive info + planning pack that I will send to you very early on in the process. This includes information on things like timing (what time is sunset? what time should you have your ceremony), recommended hair/makeup/celebrants etc, and a heap more useful info.

What’s next?

You can read a little more about me on my ‘about’ page. From there, why not head over to my blog and view some full wedding galleries. I’m quite active on insta – There’s a link to my feed towards the top of this page. I generally post once per day.

I tend to book out quite far in advance; most people book me around one year ahead of their wedding. So if you’d like to work with me, don’t leave it until the last minute to reach out and say hi, or I might not longer be available on your wedding date.
